With over 42 years of experience in education and event planning, Kathy served as Director of the California Reading Association beginning in 1982. After decades of dedicated service, she officially retired from her role in 2023.
Kathy’s passion for supporting classroom educators led her to become the lead event planner for The SIOP Institute, where she helped design impactful professional development experiences for teachers nationwide.
In 2005, Kathy partnered with Michelle to co-found Encompass Event Planners, which has thrived for over 20 years as a trusted leader in event planning and educational programming.
Kathy resides in San Clemente with her husband, Bruce. The couple recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Michelle’s passion for event planning began at a young age, and by 1999 she was already making her mark as a team member with the California Reading Association. There, she managed exhibits, coordinated speakers, and led membership initiatives with great success.
In 2005, Michelle partnered with Kathy to launch Encompass Event Planners, a thriving company that specializes in organizing events and coordinating educational speakers across the United States.
Michelle lives in San Clemente with her husband, Donald. She recently entered a new chapter as an empty nester, with both of her children now attending college in the South.
Lindsey Moore began working part-time for Encompass Event Planners in the summer of 2011. With her strong work ethic and organizational skills she was offered a full time role in 2018 as a Project Manager for various events, including educational meetings, golf tournaments, and fund-raisers.

Hi, I’m Kelly Whidden! I’m passionate about bringing people together and creating meaningful connections, whether through my work or personal endeavors. I’ve gained diverse experiences over the years—from working as a Registered Behavior Technician and helping families navigate the admissions process as an University of Utah Admissions Assistant.
Leadership and community have always been central to my life. I am an active member of Alpha Phi, where I lead initiatives on the Potential New Member and Wellness Committees and supported philanthropy for heart health. My high school experience as Spirit Commissioner also taught me how to foster enthusiasm and teamwork.
I credit my grit and determination to my parents, who worked hard to create opportunities for our family, and I strive to carry those values into everything I do. Outside of work, you’ll find me traveling, in hot yoga, or reading!
